Our Needed World Paradigm Shift

How The Internet Plays A Part

By Sheryl Dixon

Have you noticed something interesting happening all over the planet lately? Something is taking on steam since the world has been linking up. This linking via the internet has caused many peoples around the planet to collaborate independently. In other words, smart people are thinking together about issues without restriction. And of course, the people are buzzing on every hot topic of these new days. One particularly important issue, namely "dead zones" are causing a big stir all around the globe. These dead zones occur where "polluted" water enters the world's oceans from rivers and streams. An example would be the waters from the Mississippi River, U.S.A. entering into the Gulf of Mexico. These waters create a "dead zone" of approximately 8,000 sq. miles where very little marine life can live. The problem known technically as "hypoxia" occurs as a downstream effect of agriculural fertilizers which runoff into the watershed. The culprit is mainly manmade chemical nitrogen based fertilizers. Such nitrogen causes high blooms of algae. Tiny creatures such as zooplankton eat the algae, and excrete wastes that sink to the bottom of the ocean. As these wastes decay, the oxygen in the surrounding water becomes depleted. Without sufficient oxygen, most living creatures die off or leave if they can. Thus, what is left is an area of the ocean that is dead. It's not able to support life. At last count, a staggering 405 dead zones are now occuring worldwide. Really, we humans, should take a hard long look at this data. And upon concensus of agreement, alarm bells should be sounding loudly!!!
For the planet, our biosphere, is taking a big hit . . . How much longer can this go on?

>Thus, our collective consciousness is asked: Is it not high time for a worldwide paradigm shift to an organically based agricultural system? Comments welcomed . . .
